Rainier Ko, DVM, MS, DACVS Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Dr. Ko earned his Bachelor of Science at McGill University and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2000 from the Université de Montréal. Following his internship at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, Dr. Ko returned to the veterinary college as a laboratory instructor in small animal anatomy and applied surgical anatomy. In 2002, Dr. Ko worked as a volunteer in Mexico and Central America providing veterinary care and spearheading a spay/neuter capture and release program. He then completed a three year joint Master of Science and small animal surgical residency at Purdue University in 2005, during which time he was awarded for his teaching excellence. Dr. Ko spent three years as a staff surgeon in Denver at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital before returning to Purdue in 2008 as an assistant professor in small animal orthopedics and neurosurgery. Dr. Ko received board-certification in small animal veterinary surgery in 2007 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His primary clinical and research interests are orthopaedics (cruciate disease, minimally invasive surgery) and neurosurgery (brain tumors, disk herniations, and congenital spinal deformities). As a staff surgeon at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, Dr. Ko is also concurrently pursuing a residency in veterinary neurology at the Colorado State University. Outside of work, Dr. Ko can be found training for multisport/triathlons, dancing, freeskiing, and fiddling.
